Many of you may get Shape Magazine mailed to you, or pick one up occasionally. This month's issue (April 2008) had a couple of articles I wanted to share with you:
Sleepytime
First, a report that we actually are more emotional when we don't get enough sleep. According to the journal Current Biology, we're over 60% more reactive. I think we all knew it happens, but I just love how they finally put a number on it! They recommend aiming for 8 hours of sleep each night.
Let me do the math for you: assuming you get up 1/2 hour before boot camp, these are your ideal bedtimes (I know, I know...). For 5:30am boot campers, think about turning in at about 9:00pm and for 6:30am boot campers, aim for lights out at 10:00pm.
Spousal Support
This study's from University of Connecticut where they found that the spouses of weight-loss program participants lost an average of 4.9 pounds even though they weren't told to cut back. Now that's a good reason for the whole family to be on board when you sign-up for boot camp!
